The 9th SHHP in succession will be construction on the Yeghegis River. Yeghegnadzor Aarhus Center Coordinator Narek Beglaryan informs about this on www.aarhus.am website. It’s about “Tigran Mets” SHHP, the construction project of which “Rus&Har” LLC has submitted to the Nature Protection Ministry. Under Narek Beglaryan, at the public hearings held in Yeghegis community on 13 April Yeghegis community supported the construction of this SHHP and mentioned there will be no tree felling and explosions during the implementation of construction works, while the river water is not used by the villagers in this particular section.
Under the project, “Tigran Mets” SHHP will be constructed in the lower part of Yeghegis community, where there no cultivated land areas and water of Yeghegis River in that very part is not used for irrigation purposes. Two pipelines for the construction of the SHP will be laid, but the second pipe line will be used in full-water months. The pipelines will be laid in community-owned land areas, and a servitude agreement has been concluded for this purpose. The SHP will be operating with 2.5 watt in shallow-water months.
It should be mentioned that twelve licenses have been issued for the construction of SHHPs on the Yeghegis River. The SHHPs, which already operate, have already left h their negative impact on the river. The Yeghegis River, which forms the ecosystem of Yeghegis Gorge, has changed its composition within three years. Under the data by Environmental Impact Monitoring Center of Nature Protection Minister, the water temperature in the river increased by 1 degree from 2009 to 2011. Its transparency reduced by 3 points (cm), content of oxygen – 2 points (mg/l), which had its impact on the fish reserves. The endemic fish species had already disappeared in the lower part of the river.
