The Committee on Lake Sevan met in Yerevan.
The press service of the President of Armenia reports that the head of the presidential staff Karen Karapetyan also took part in the meeting.
Chairman of the committee Vladimir Movsissyan reported on the work done in 2009 and outlined plans for 2010. He said that all the 16 measures planned for 2009 had been fulfilled. Particularly, the committee worked out measures to further raise the level of Sevan, to effectively use the lake' water, to increase its fish resources, has drafted plan of repair of 3-km long breakdown section of Arpa-Sevan tunnel, has started to the work to restore sewerage systems of Sevan, Gavar, Martuni, Vardenis and Jermuk.
The key priority of the committee in 2010 will be further work to raise the level of the lake, to purify its water and to increase its fish resources.

The Presidential Commission assigned to study the issues confronting Lake Sevan convened today and its head, Vladimir Movsisyan, gave an overview of the committee’s activities in 2009 and its project outline for the coming year. Attending the meeting was Presidential Chief of Staff Karen Karapetyan.
Mr. Movsisyan stated that based on the research and findings of the commission, a number of specific proposals had been submitted to the government regarding the raising of the lake’s surface, efficient water resources utilization, limiting water losses, water purification and measures aimed at replenishing the lake’s decimated fish populations.
The commission president pointed to a draft plan to repair a 3 kilometer stretch of Arpa-Sevan pipe supplying fresh water to the lake and renovations to the sewer systems of the towns of Sevan, Gavar, Martuni, Vardenis and Jermuk, that border the lake, as evidence of the progress being made to improve the ecology of the lake and surrounding areas.
