At the UN Climate Change Summit in Cancun (Mexico) Armenia was awarded a prize for achieving clean development mechanisms. This mechanism was recognized as the most important achievement of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia for 2010. Clean development mechanisms are complex organizational, environmental and economic tasks and their solution is based on the UN Framework Convention “On Climate Change” and the Kyoto Protocol. The main aim of these documents is to decrease amount of greenhouse gases emitted into atmosphere by using economic mechanisms.
Nevertheless, the Armenian team having received international recognition which has been dealing with climate change issues for more than 10 years turns out be beheaded. Armenian Coordinator for the Convention and Head of Environmental Protection Department of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia Aram Gabrielyan turned out to be not necessary for the Ministry: By the Government decree this department was closed down and Aram Gabrielyan was dismissed.
