The author of Amulsar gold mining project 'Lydian Armenia' CJSC is warning that it doesn't bear any responsibility for any environmental problem: the company vests all the responsibility on the Armenian Government.

The press release disseminated by Lydian says:

'Lydian warned the Government on possible environmental issues
Lydian Armenia CJSC (‘Lydian” or the “Company”) has repeatedly advised government authorities that due to the illegal blockades of the roads leading to the Amulsar project site, the Company has not been able to access the project site to construct water management systems or maintain monitoring and mitigation measures designed to ensure compliance with the Company’s commitments and permit conditions. This includes construction of water management structures and implementation of good management practices specifically designed to limit erosion and sediment loading of surface waters following high precipitation events and spring snow melt.

Lydian has put the government on notice that the Company bears no responsibility for any environmental degradation including degradation of surface waters due to the government’s inaction to remove the illegal blockages since June 2018.

During this winter season heavy snow falls have been experienced at the Amulsar site. Mitigation work normally performed prior to the snow fall to control high sediment loading in surface waters was not possible with the illegal blockades in place.

Lydian has been consistent in its petitioning the government to act. During this winter season heavy snow falls have been experienced at the Amulsar site. Mitigation work normally performed prior to the winter season to control high sediment loading in surface waters was not possible with the illegal blockades in place. Once the Company resumes its activity, it will take a number of months to complete the construction work on water management structures. Until this is the case all responsibility for any environmental, water and air degradations lies with the government of the Republic of Armenia'.
