The environmentalists and Gndevaz village and Jermuk town residents are extremely concerned with the mine development in this area, but they won't hold any protest any more.
In his interview with Tert.am Gndevaz villager and activist Karen Barseghyan said that the villagers have adapted to the project despite its hazards, and there aren't many complainers.
Gndevaz Village Head Harutyun Mkrtchyan said, the villagers are concerned as their village together with several other villages will join Jermuk community as a result of community optimization project and it turns out that Gndevaz villagers will get mine dust and adversary effects, while the money will be controlled by Jermuk Municipality.
'Our people are concerned that the mine will be developed and the pollution will impact Gndevaz population, but Jermuk community will control all the money. Now our demand to to stop optimization. We hoped to develop the village with the funds we would get from Geoteam, but as it turns out we won't have any powers starting from 2 October 2016,' the village head said.
According to the environmentalists, Amulsar gold mining project is hazardous especially when the company is going to use heap leaching method for extracting gold and silver, while this substance is very strong and poisonous substance, which generates death in 2-4 hours, if it penetrates into human organism.
'Geoteam' CJSC owned by offshore-registered Lydian International Limited is going to implement gold extracting with the help of this toxic substance under those conditions when it's located in a distance of 1 km from the Arpa River supplying water to all Vayots Dzor Region, while the nearby communities are 1.2 km far from Gndevaz Village and 7.6 km far from Jermuk resort town.
