The highway leading to Jermuk is blocked again. For the third day in a row, Jermuk residents and environmentalists have gathered near the second guard point leading to Amulsar mine, demanding the dismantling of the caravans of the security company for Lydian Armenia.
Jermuk Community Head Vardan Hovhannisyan said that according to his preliminary information Lydian Armenia did not have the right to install a caravan. "We informed "Lydian Armenia", though they insisted that they have legal documents for installing caravans. If it becomes clear tomorrow that there is no legal basis for installing a caravan, they will dismantle them.
․․․They have made a mistake with the installation site. Relevant specialists will come tomorrow morning, they will decide where the caravan should be located, then it will be moved to the appropriate place with at their own expenses," Vardan Hovhannisyan said.
It should be noted that today a protest demonstration was held in front of RA Government building in the capital as well. RA Police also detained the participants of that protest demonstration, including human rights activists Ara Gharagyozyan and Nina Karapetyants, who were released after some time. Levon Galstyan, the member of "Armenian Environmental Front" initiative, was also detained from the area near the Opera House, who also was released from the police station a while ago.
RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan posted on Facebook today in connection with the arrest of the citizens. "Based on the alarm signal on the arrest of the citizens protesting in front of the Government against the development of Amulsar mine, on the basis of social media monitoring, the rapid response teams went to Police Departments on the instructions of the Human Rights Defender.
The ombudsman's representatives will have individual talks with the detained persons, including the detained human rights activists, will get acquainted with the state of their rights and the grounds for their detention.
Human Rights Defender continues to focus on the developments around Amulsar mine within its competences.”
