"Tatstone" LLC Wants to Prospect for Copper and Molybdenum in "Arevik" National Park Area

"Tatstone" LLC wants to conduct geoprospecting in the area of “Arevik” National Park, which is included in “Zangezour” Biospheric Complex. “The area of Aygedzor copper and molybdenum mine, where the geoprospecting works are planned to be carried out, partially coincides with the area of “Arevik” National Park,” says Aygedzor copper and molybdenum mining project, the public hearings of which will be held at 12:00 on 11 September in Vardan Rural Municipality, Syunik Region.

Reminder: "Tatstone" LLC intends to develop Litchq copper mine, Syunik Region, which is located in a distance of 1 km from “Arevik” National Park. The mining project currently undergoes environmental expertise. The area for geoprospecting is located in Tghkut section, southern part of Syunik Region, on both banks of the Meghri River, at absolute heights of 1000-1600 meters, in the surrounding of Meghri Town – 260.3 ha. The closest residential area to the mine is Vardanidzor community, which unites Vardanidzor, Tghkut and Aygedzor villages. The main water unit in the area is the Araks River. The vegetation in Aygedzor mine area is oak, hornbeam, beach forests. The project says that tree felling won’t be carried out and it doesn’t mention the impact on the local rich fauna. The works will be carried out from 2015 to 2017.
