You can already feel the spirit of moods in Yerevan, whereas the interest towards the New year is increasing in the city, as this year we will meet it with new Xmas tree. Its installation works were launched on 2 December: the Xmas tree has a height of 37 meters (together with its top). It has been made of high0-quality fur-tree branches. It will be decorated with 200-kilometer-long lights and 1500 ornaments.
This pre-new-year surprise was not accepted in the same way by the public: the price of the Xmas tree made a scandal – 71 million AMD (around 140,000 AMD). Some people think that the economy and the budget of Armenia are experiencing hard times and we can afford such a luxury, while others are enthusiastic about having a new Xmas tree explaining it with being tired of having the same Xmas tree again and again.
The lights of the main Xmas tries will be lit on 20 December to be followed by festive events. Annual 'Santa Run' contest will be held in the Republic Square at 11:00 on 23 December, while on 24 December Yerevan Municipality is inviting near Alexander Tamanyan's statue to take part in the annual thematic walk in the city.
