Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov (YSLU) has issued a statement saying the University finds it beyond its competence to share an opinion on the controversial construction at the capital's Mashtots Park which has stirred up deep resonance.
"While Yerevan State Linguistic University realizes the importance of the issue, it cannot express an opinion since we find it ultra vires. Neither the University nor its Student Council is authorized to make statements on the matter. Professors and students can only express their personal opinions, «YSLU said in the statement.

Though construction of kiosks has been temporarily suspended at Yerevan's Mashtots Avenue, environmental activists are not going to leave the area. People protesting against the construction since February 11 will gather at the park at midday to decide their further steps.
Talking to A1+, activist Eghia Nersisyan said the mayor's decision to halt the construction of boutiques for five days cannot affect their determination to safeguard the green zone.
Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan made a statement on Thursday saying, "A number of structures in Abovyan Street were removed by the Yerevan Municipality. The owners were offered alternative territories, including the undeveloped area near Mashtots Avenue and Yeznik Kokhbatsi Street. The area is registered as liable to improvement by the Yerevan Landscaping CJSC. According to the documents, the company is installing the kiosks in the park as compensation to the owners of structures removed from Abovyan Street. The kiosks are temporary structures - until the Old Yerevan program has been completed."
At the initiative of the environmental activists a number of events will be held at the park, including a guitar concert and a meeting with ethnographer Aghasi Tadevosyan.
