The Malatia-Sebastia Community Municipality is conducting a tree planting. Malatia-Sebastia Community Municipality Greening Department specialist Samvel Aleksanyan said that 114 ash trees had been planted along Raffi Street, seven trees are still to be planted, as well as flowers. Under him, the territory subject to greening was non-cultivated. Nevertheless, in contrast to Samvel Aleksanyan, Armenian citizen Ani Khachatryan insists that territory had trees, which had been felled down this winter. “It was 24 February when I saw some tree felling going on, I approached them and asked them if they had any permit, they said they were greening department employees, I said it didn’t matter, they should have a permit. I stopped the tree felling and called the police and it turned out they had no permit. Then I learnt they were fined for 1.5 million AMD,” Ani said. She mentioned that there were fruit trees among felled trees, and when she asked why they were felling trees, she was replied for beautification. In reply to the allegations one of the workers said that dry trees had been felled, while fruit trees had been moved to other place. He took us to the place where the fruit trees were moved. But Ani assured us those trees were not from their street, as they were thicker and older trees. “The trees didn’t allow the grass to grow, children break trees for several fruit. The trees, which were possible to move, have been moves, while dried trees have been felled down,” Samvel Aleksanyan said.
