Capital City Saving 60% Energy Due To Modern Lighting Systems Introduced into Yerevan Streets

Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan has received the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of Armenia Shombi Sharp.

Welcoming his guest, the Mayor expressed his satisfaction with the active cooperation process and results between Yerevan and the UNDP. Hayk Marutyan noted that the Municipality is willing to cooperate further with a hope that the implemented projects will be continuous.

The UN Resident Coordinator, in his turned, has confirmed the availability of the close cooperation with the city. Shombi Sharp noted that the cooperation between the UNDP and Yerevan is visible in the literal meaning of this word – modern lighting systems have been introduced into several streets in Yerevan, which has enabled saving over 60% of electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Besides, that the UNDP has supported the increase in energy efficiency in a number of public and residential houses in Yerevan. In several days, Center for Children № 3 will open in Erebuni administrative area rehabilitated in the frames of this project, which will increase the energy efficiency by 50%.
