Very soon the buildings of kindergartens, polyclinics, schools and youth centers will become energy efficient. UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan says that currently 150 buildings have been selected, mainly kindergartens, polyclinics, schools and youth centers, which will be rehabilitated to become energy-efficient and energy-saving.
24% of total greenhouse gas emissions in Armenia generates from the electricity consumed in the buildings, while 30% of the Armenian population is considered to be “energetically poor”. Around 50% of energy-efficiency should be ensured through heat-isolation in the buildings. “Nowadays the Municipality has already selected 31 kindergartens where technical supervision has been carried out, i.e. what kind of seismic needs they have. We have carried out energetic audit in 28 kindergartens, i.e. how much electricity is spent and what kind of energy-efficient measures should be carried out. Now we are going to announce a CFP for design works,” Diana Harutyunyan said.
“We assisted Yerevan Municipality to develop “Yerevan-Solar Community” project in order to receive a grant of 1,200,000 USD from the EU. We have already received this grant and the project will commence this year. Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of around 90 blocks of flats, as well as LED lamps will be installed in the elevators, corridors and yards of these buildings,” Diana Harutyunyan said.
Out of already implemented energy-efficient projects, Diana Harutyunyan outlined “Urban Green Lighting” project. In the frames of this project, 2767 LED lamps have been installed in the streets of Alaverdi, Stepanavan, Spitak, Gyumri, Dilijan, Sevan, Gavar, Abovyan. Yerevan, Ararat, Vayq, Goris, Qajaran, Kapan and Meghri Towns. As a result, the annual saving of electricity has made up 1.882 MWpHh. The project measures have assisted in reducing 836 tons of CO2.
In 2015 the Republic of Armenia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed loaning project “Yerevan Street Lighting Project”, in the frames of which it was planned to carry out luminaries, control & monitoring centre, pole and cable replacement, introduction of automated management systems and use of LED lamps.
