Green Climate Fund to Allot 20 Million US to Armenia to Increase Energy Efficiency of Buildings

Armenia will receive a $20 million grant from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for improving energy efficiency of buildings, the UNDP said in a statement. A corresponding decision was adopted at the thirteenth meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board in Songdo, Republic of Korea.

The proposal from Armenia is the first project to be approved by the Board from Central and Eastern Europe. The program was developed and presented by UNDP as an accredited implementing entity to the Fund.

The project will contribute to creating favorable conditions for energy efficiency investments in public and private buildings of Armenia and will be implemented in partnership with Yerevan Municipality.

The Green Climate Fund is a fund established within the frames of the UN Convention on Climate Change, which aims to support developing countries to fight climate change. The Fund is accountable to the UN. It has been established with the participation of 194 countries, as the official website of the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry informs.
