The Armenian Government intends to prevent soil degradation: in 2019 “Program on Implementation Neutral Degradation of Soil” will be developed and submitted to Staff of RA Prime Minister.

The neutral degradation of soil is a state when the quality and quantity indicators of fertile and healthy soil don’t decrease over time and region, just the opposite – they increase.

On 31 January, the target indicators for neutral degradation of soil will be determined and soil degradation will be prevented in line with the national action plan of combating desertification in Armenia approved by the Armenian Government.

Desertification is the final stage of soil degradation: according to the strategy on combating desertification in Armenia approved in 2015, 48.8% of the area in Armenia is undergoing desertification, 24.3% is in the risk zone of desertification, while there are no desertification processes expressed in 22.6% of the area.
