The representatives of Armenian civil society have begun the process of rejecting the draft law on amending the Law on Freedom of Information Act. The draft of the statement rejecting the draft law says:
"From the very first day of the project circulation, the civil society has been raising issues related to this initiative, calling on the author of the project to refrain from this provision that establishes confidentiality. In particular,
• The proposed initiative contradicts the Aarhus Convention.
• The project was developed without civil society representatives working in the field, and there has been no proper public discussion to date.
• This amendment violates the principle of transparency adopted by the government, on the one hand, and limits access to environmental information and public scrutiny, on the other. We demand that the draft law is repealed immediately."
