EcoLur

Shekaghbyur gold-polymetallic mining area is not included in the forest fund of “ArmForest” SNCO, as “ArmForest” SNCO Director Miqayel Manukyan’s reply letter addressed to EcoLur Informational NGO says. Reminder: EcoLur has received an alarm signal from Ardvi villagers, Lori Region, Armenia, that a number of trees in the forest located under the control of Tumanyan forestry enterprise, next to Ardvi Village, has been numbered for the purposes of felling. The residents are concerned that the tree felling is designed for the purpose of developing infrastructures for the geological prospecting of Shekaghbyur gold-polymetallic mine, as the tree felling used to be banned in this forest. In this regard, EcoLur made an inquiry to 'ArmForest' SNCO of RA Agriculture Ministry asking to inform, 'Whether there is tree felling planned under the forest management plan in the area of Tumanyan forestry enterprise next to Ardvi Village and since when?” In reply, “ArmForest” SNCO Director Miqayel Manukyan informs that still factual examinations shall be carried out in terms of the trees selected for felling in the mentioned area, where the residents of the adjacent communities may take part in and the issue of allotting felling area will be decided based on the conclusion issued by the professional committee. It should be noted that sanitary and care felling in progress don’t pursue any aim to support the implementation of this project. The mapped area designed for mining is not included in the balance of ‘ArmForest’ SNCO.”
