On June 27, 2025, a regional consultation was held at the COAF SMART Center in Debet, Lori Region, to assess community needs in implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation policies. The event brought together members of the National Assembly, local officials from Pambak, representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), NGOs, experts, and youth leaders.
The consultation was part of the UNDP project “Fostering Responsive, Effective, Transparent, and Inclusive National Assembly of Armenia” (FORSETI), funded by the Governments of Sweden and Canada in cooperation with the Armenian Parliament.

Mane Hakobyan, a Yeghnut resident and member of the Public Journalists Network, presented the climate challenges and development needs of the Yeghnut community.

Yeghnut’s climate is generally mild, but it has changed in recent years. “In winter, there is almost no precipitation, whereas in March and April, snowfall is common. Hailstorms and heavy rains have become more frequent, often turning into floods, which damage agriculture. Due to climate change, soil productivity has decreased, and residents are no longer motivated to engage in farming,” said Mane Hakobyan.

According to Mane Hakobyan, the village needs to develop livestock farming, which requires the construction of shelters and water troughs for animals in the mountains. Residents would also like to have a drying facility: “Our natural environment is rich in various berries, herbs, and fruits, and a drying facility would create jobs while also making residents’ work easier.”

Locals also associate their village’s development prospects with tourism. The village is rich in historical and cultural monuments.
