Within 4 years, Sevan National Park has implemented only 5.7% of the planned reforestation works. In 2014-2023, 661,30 ha of the area in Sevan National Park should undergo reforestation out of which in 2014-2018 only 37.43 ha was performed.

In reply to EcoLur’s enquiry on reforestation, Chief Secretary of RA Nature Protection Ministry V. Jilavyan in his letter N 5/07.1/51069 informed, “In 2014-2018, forestation was carried out in the territory of Sevan National Park – 22 ha in Yeranos section of Martuni Branch and 15.43 ha in Akhtamar section of Sevan Branch,” the letter says.

In line with the governmental resolution N 1441- Ն dated on 15 November 2012, 4000 ha of forest area will be flooded as a result of increasing the level of Lake Sevan. The establishment of a new forest layer in the area of 661.30 ha was planned to mitigate the consequences of the loss of the forest cover.
