RA Environmental and Mining Inspection has responded in regard to the leak of acidic water out of the central derelict mine in Kapan (Kavart mine) and carried out sampling. The findings are to be published. Immediately after the alarm signal, the streets of the town have been cleaned. Reminder: still in 2009 “Deno Gold Mining” Company refused from the concession right to operating Kapan central mine without final mining of the reserves considering it unprofitable and handed to the state. At the discussions on this transaction held in Kapan still in 2009, Ex Director of Ore Processing Combine Albert Stepanyan said, “This mine can be operated only by an operating enterprise: if an enterprise owning such a gold mine as Shahumyan mine is, refuses from it, I think that the tomorrow of Shahumyan mine is still too far.” It turns out that the state accepted the mine considered to be unprofitable without reclaiming and it’s already 10 years since no new investors have been found for the mining nor the state reclaimed the mine leaving this derelict mine as a gift to the environment and particularly Kapan Community as a gift with all its negative consequences. It should be mentioned that “Deno Gold Mining” Company was also operating Shahumyan gold-polymetallic mine which was purchased in 2016 by Russian “Polymetal International” Company followed by “Chaarat Gold” Company in 2018.
