The wastes of Yerevan wine factory are dumped into the Hrazdan River as a local resident beat an alarm signal to EcoLur.
“I like fishing and often fish in the Hrazdan River. For already 4-5 months I can observe the following phenomena: the industrial wastes of the wine factory are dumped into the Hrazdan River. In the past I used to see the fish reserve, but now I can see how industrial wastes are dumped into the Hrazdan River and affect on the whole ecosystem. The fish has disappeared as boiling wine remainders are dumped into the river, which have very specific smell. During discharge one can find dead fish in the river. At first foamy solution is dumped, which changes the colour of the river. Then white solutions is dumped, which I think is caustic soda used for washing bottles,” the fisherman said.
He also said that he saw how the workers opened draw-off taps into the river. “I came up to them and asked what they were doing? Why are you polluting the river? They told me they were doing whatever they were ordered to do. Then I learnt that the discharge pipe at the combine was obstructed. They found an easy way and dumped it into the river,” he said. EcoLur working group visited the scene mentioned by the resident and detected that dark brown fluid is dumped into the Hrazdan River with typical wine smell. The alarm signal is sent to Nature Protection Ministry and we would like to ask to conduct examinations and to find out whether Yerevan Wine Factory factually dumps its wastes into the Hrazdan River and to determine the damage caused to environment.
