Michael Burnside was Assistant Director for Minerals and Geology Management (retired) for the US Forest Service which he is representing at this Conference. He was responsible for management of mining on all Forest Service lands. Since retirement, he is also a consulting geologist and the owner of Mineral Lands Consulting LLC. The clients served by his company include small miners, large mining corporations, the U.S. Forest Service, land conservation groups and mining law attorneys. From 2005 to 2007, he was a member of the Board of Directors and chaired the Mining Law Committee for the Northwest Mining Association (now the American Exploration and Mining Association).
Mr. Burnside holds a Master’s degree in Economic Geology from the University of Montana and has undergone national certification as a Review Certified Mineral Examiner by the U.S. Forest Service.
