Union of Nature Protection Ministry and Agriculture Ministry Impermissible

Sources standing close to the Armenian Government advised us about the intention to unite Nature Protection Ministry with Agriculture Ministry. This news caused tense discussion among the “greens” in social networks and environmental society.

Ex Nature Protection Minister, Dr. in Biological Sciences, Samvel Baloyan reminded that in 2000 there was an attempt to unite these two ministries. “The attempt failed. They realized on time it would be a fatal mistake. If to repeat this mistake, a part of the national security will be eliminated,” he posted on Facebook.

Levon Galstyan, a member of the Pan-Armenian Environmental Front thinks that it will make Nature Protection Minister weaker and without any attention from Nature Protection Minister, “If this intention comes true, we should cross out the state environmental policy,” Galstyan thinks, “Some web users think that this probable union is just not well-thought step, while the others think it’s a conscious collapse of the environmental sphere.”

A call is disseminated among the “green” social groups not to allow this union, which may lead to the disastrous consequences not for all environmental projects, but for the whole country.

EcoLur reminds that in recent years Armenian Government has deprived the Nature Protection Ministry from authorities in such spheres as soil, forest and particularly water, delegating these fields to Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, Agriculture Ministry and Territorial Administration Ministry.
