At the cabinet meeting on 11 July, the disruption of the energetic system occurred on 10 July was discussed. At 13:35 on 10 July, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan stated that a major blackout in the capital city Yerevan and several provinces was caused by an accident in the country’s energy system.
He said the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant (TPP) and the 5th power unit of the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant were disconnected from the power grid and more outages were possible throughout the country. At the Cabinet meeting, Director of National Security Service Arthur Vanetsyan reported he had assigned to prepare materials in regard to the power outages and fluctuations in order to have a clear understanding of the reasons for the malfunction of the energetic system.
