On 21 April, there were clashed between the Chechen population and the special force units of Georgian police in Pankisi Gorge: over 20 people have suffered as a result of these clashes. The majority of the population in Pankis Gorge is Chechens who are complaining against the construction of the hydropower station, while the authorities claim that the company must construct the HPP there as it has all the permits.

The villagers of Duisi Village had blocked the roads and the spot where the construction works should have started.

This protest demonstration has turned into serious clashes between the police and the population: the situation could have been regulated only after the arrival of Home Affairs Minister of Georgia.
The residents say they are ready to die but won’t allow the construction of any HPP: in their opinion, the residents of the villages in Pankisi Gorge may be deprived of drinking water as a result of the HPP construction.
