Yerevan received a gift, the seeds of the tallest tree in the world, the sequoia. “Our friends in Los Angeles, knowing that there will be landscaping in Yerevan, sent a small gift – the seeds of the highest tree in the world, the sequoia. As a sign of success, I decided to donate it to Yerevan Municipality,” Artur Ispiryan, a member of “My Step” faction, stated at the special session of Yerevan Aldermen’s Council dated on December 16.

Sequoia sempervirens is the sole living species of the genus Sequoia in the cypress family Cupressaceae (formerly treated in Taxodiaceae). Common names include coast redwood, coastal redwood and California redwood. It is an evergreen, long-lived, monoecious tree living 1,200–1,800 years or more. Coast redwoods occupy a narrow strip of land along the Pacific coast of North America; the most southerly grove is in Monterey County, California, and the most northerly groves are in extreme southwestern Oregon.
