On 7 November “Public Monitoring of Forests” Project Volunteers Ani Khachatryan, Vahram Petrosyan and “Hetq” online newspaper photographer Narek Aleksanyan visited Ijevan Forestry Enterprise of “ArmForest” SNCO.
“We walked 2-3 km through the forest and had already fixed 45 illegally cut down stubs. When we reached the upper forests of Hovq village, we heard the noise of electrical saws in a distance of around 1 km. Two people blocked our way and didn’t allow us to go in the direction of electrical saws and we called the police,” Ani Khachatryan told EcoLur. In about two hours the police arrived and we were taken to Ijevan Police Division, where we wrote an explanation.
“ArmForest” SNCO Ijevan Forestry Enterprise Deputy Director in Preservation Arthur Gabrielyan told EcoLur it was he who ordered not to allow the project members to walk into the forest. In reply to the question what the grounds are to ban the entry to the forest, Arthur Gabrielyan couldn’t answer and said instead, “I allow those who I know, and if I don’t know anybody I don’t allow.”
