As compared with 2011, illegal tree felling has reduced half 2012. “In 2012 the total volume of illegal tree felling made up 1860 ha as compared with 3081 ha in 2011…Cases of illegal felling has been reduced in forestry enterprises due to strengthening control in forestry enterprises, measures taken by law enforcement bodies, as well as free provision of the remainders to the population,” these data were provided in the report of “State Center for Forest Monitoring” and “ArmForest” NGOs presented in the meeting of the state forest monitoring board, which coordinates the struggle against illegal felling in Armenia on 1 February. The meeting was presided by Deputy PM, Board Chairperson Armen Gevorgyan.
According to the data of the Armenian police, 22 criminal cases were initiated on illegal felling in 2012 as compared with 16 cases in 2011. In general, the damage caused to the state for 2012 made up around 31 million AMD, afterwards 17 million AMD was compensated. The data about recorded administrative offences were also presented according to regions. The Deputy PM positively assessed reduction in the number of offences for 2012 in Lori Region and at the same time expressed his concerns with the indicators for Tavush region.
