Statement: Considering Operation of Any Metallic Mine in Tavush Region Unacceptable

“Tavush without Mine” Initiative Group has disseminated a statement, where it call the citizens to hinder the public hearings of the geological prospecting of Vazashen gold-polymetallic minefield on 27 February.

The statement of the initiative says:

“We, the members of “Tavush without Mine” Initiative Group, taking into consideration the negative experience of metallic mining and its destructive impact in Armenia, as well as taking into account our implications of our region as a region with exclusive clean ecological environment, declare that

- We consider any mining operations in Tavush Region as unacceptable,

- We can see the development of Tavush Region only in a healthy environment in the form of ecotourism and organic agriculture available in the region and applying the potential of mass industry. We are calling for the residents of Vazashen Community and adjacent communities, as well as all the citizens excluding mining perspectives in our region to hinder holding public relations in Vazashen Community on 27 February by all means, thus excluding operations of a metallic mining in Tavush area.’

It should be mentioned that 'AU Group' LLC intends to search for gold, silver, copper, zinc, and lead and to estimate their reserves in gold-polymetallic minefields in Tavush Region: mass search for radioactive elements is planned.
