The delegation of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative of Armenia (EITI) within the framework of a study visit to the United Kingdom headed by Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, Member of the EITI Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) Lilia Shushanyan, was hosted by the United Kingdom Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS Department). The main purpose of the visit is to explore the UK's leading experience in identifying real owners.
During the workshop, the Armenian delegation learned from the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the House of Companies about the establishment of a Register of Real Estate Owners, legal regulations, and experience in registering.
“Even two years ago, when discussions on the creation of a registry of final beneficiaries began in Armenia, the British experience was a benchmark for us as a best example. We are glad that the first cornerstone in this field has been laid down in the laws already adopted in Armenia,” Lilia Shushanyan noted.
The workshop participants presented the functions, legal regulations, partnerships with other government agencies and NGOs, as well as other countries with significant impacts on the Registry of Real Estate Owners of the House of Companies. Legal arrangements for collecting information, making the data publicly available, protecting personal data, and fulfilling the requirements of disclosing real owners were also presented.
