On November 23, the TehranTimes Iran published an article entitled "Armenia Should Be More Responsible for Aras River Pollution". The article notes that industrial waste contamination from Armenia through the transboundary Aras River poses great dangers in north-western Iranian settlements.
According to the article, the monitoring conducted by the Iranian side showed that the aluminum, copper, iron and arsenic contents found in the Aras River exceeded the permissible standard 10 times. In response to a recent inquiry by journalist Tehmineh Yenoqyan, Marat Badalyan, Deputy Head of Nature Protection and Mining Inspection, stated that Agarak CJSC has the relevant authorization granted by the Authorized Body to fill the clearance removed from the tailing dump # 1 into the Aras River.
