

On November 7, 2025, at the administrative office of Qaraberd settlement of Pambak community in Lori Region, the fourth public hearing on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report regarding the extension of the operation period of Qaraberd gold mine (central section) and underground mineral extraction works was held.
The hearing took place in a tense atmosphere. The majority of local residents and civil society representatives present voiced their opposition to the company’s activities. They expressed their concerns about the possible environmental impacts of the planned operations.
Suren Kostandyan, head of Pambak community, stated that he already knows who supports and who opposes the project.
A representative of the Ministry of Environment noted that the opinions and observations expressed during the hearing will be taken into account when preparing the final conclusion.
It should be noted that “Assat” LLC intends to extend for 9 years the validity period of Qaraberd gold mine soil management permit and contract in Lori Region.
The company’s soil management permit was valid from 2012 to 2024, and the central section of Qaraberd gold mine has been operated intermittently during this period.
