Newly Appointed Minister Offers Installing Solar Stations on Reclaimed Tailing Dumps

The newly appointed RA Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan proposes a new idea - to install solar photovoltaic stations on reclaimed tailing dumps, as he stated on August 4 during "Facebook press conference" by "Azatutyun" radio station.

"The investment projects that will apply to bring photovoltaic panels to the regions as a source of solar energy, we will direct them largely to the closed tailing dumps, who will recreate, build photovoltaic stations on those lands, saving the lands that can be used for agricultural purposes," Romanos Petrosyan said.

"But state institutions are obliged to establish proper and aggressive control over this type of mining industry, where, as a result,we have half-abandoned tailing dumps, polluted rivers and tributaries. We are doomed to have a knowledge-based economy, to diversify our economy within shortest possible timeframes with nanotechnologies, innovative solutions, combining alternative energy sources with our way of life. Then we will start thinking about not developing the mines, but closing what we have.”
