We Are Following Latest Events But Have No Authority To Intervene: Romanos Petrosyan on Tense Situation Around Amulsar

We must have all the guarantees in terms of risk management and alleviation of other concerns for the development of Amulsar gold mine, as the newly appointed RA Environment Minister, Ex Kotayk Regional Head Romanos Petrosyan said today, August 4, in the course of "Facebook press conference" by "Azatutyun" radio station.

"The events related to Amulsar are mostly in the domain of Environment Ministry in terms of content. I want to guarantee that, as the Prime Minister said in his press conferences, if the mine is to be developed, we must have all the guarantees in terms of risk management and alleviation of other concerns, if there are no other guarantees, then it should not be developed. For the rest, I will ask for time to talk in more detail with experts, including environmental movements and their representatives.

I have stated that I will work with them openly, honestly and transparently: there can’t be any concern that won’t be taken into account that is an argument beyond any questions. "I guarantee it both personally and ex officio," the minister said.

Speaking about the tense situation in Amulsar today, the Minister noted that he is following up on the latest developments, but at this very moment their department does not have the authority to intervene.
