"As a country with a functioning nuclear power plant, Armenia has adopted a transparent and open policy of safe and peaceful use of nuclear energy and will continue to strengthen and take appropriate measures to enhance and maintain nuclear and radiation safety." This was stated by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikan at the 63rd General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is being held in Vienna on September 15-18.
Suren Papikyan emphasized that safe use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes has been and remains a priority for Armenia.
About 40 national programs have already been implemented within the framework of cooperation with the IAEA, currently 7 are being implemented. Suren Papikyan expressed hope that these programs will be continuous and will make every effort to adhere to the Comprehensive Plan of Action.
