

According to the press release by Rusatom - International Network, an international conference of nuclear veterans was held on April 12, 2022, in Armenia, at the site of the Armenian nuclear power plant, dedicated to increasing the public acceptability of nuclear energy by the population in the locations of nuclear power plants. The event was organized by International Union of Public Associations "The International Union of Veterans of Nuclear Energy and Industry" (IUVNEI) and the Union of Nuclear Energy Veterans of Armenia. The event was also attended by representatives of veteran organizations from Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The publication, in particular, says: “... IUVNEI Executive Secretary V.T. Lebedenko noted that the task of such events as today's conference is to tell the public about the advantages of nuclear power plants both in terms of improving the living standards of the population and in terms of solving the environmental problems facing humanity.”
Chairman of the Union of Veterans of the Republic of Armenia S.G. Azatyan, addressing the conference participants, said: “The understanding of the importance of the peaceful atom is reflected in the “Strategic Program for the Development of the Energy Industry of Armenia until 2040”, where the extension of the ANPP lifetime and the construction of a new power unit are declared as priority projects.”
Professor of Ivanovo State Power Engineering University, Deputy General Director for Science of "Systems and Technologies" JSC GK Savelyev V.A. spoke about the role of nuclear energy in the development of modern society and raising the standard of living of the population. First Deputy Chairman of Kazakhstan IUVNEI B.O. Duisebaev shared with the conference participants his opinion on new technologies in the nuclear industry, which give impetus to the low-carbon energy and waste-free industry of the future. The experience of increasing public acceptability in the Republic of Belarus was shared by D.M. Maksimovich.
The conference participants listened to the report of Yanko Yanev, Professor, Director of the Institute for Nuclear Knowledge Management in Vienna, who focused on the future of nuclear energy.
