Matters Relating to Illegal Tree Felling and Illegal Fishing Discussed at Gegharkounik Regional Prosecutor's Office

On 26 March, Gegharkounik Regional Prosecutor's Office held a consultation where they discussed the directions of the cooperation of law enforcement bodies, territorial administration and local government bodies in their fight against illegal tree felling and illegal fishing.

Regional Prosecutor considers the current situation in Chambarak area very worrying within the frames of these discussions taking into consideration that over 900 cases of illegal tree felling have been recorded in this area over the recent 3 years. The task is to locate check guard points in relevant areas in order not to allow illegal tree felling, as well as to check the lawfulness of timber transportation. One of the results of this consultation is to enhance the fight against illegal fishing. Regional Prosecutor considered it unacceptable that in 2019, 43 criminal cases have been initiated based on illegal fishing cases, out of which in case of 35 investigative bodies of other areas have detected these cases.
