On 24 January, near 18:40, the fire broken out in the forest adjacent to Vahagnidzor Village, Lori Region, has been extinguished. Currently, post-extinguishing works are being carried out to prevent the double extension of the fire. Under the preliminary data, around 5-6 ha of the grass-covered and forest-covered area has been burnt down.
Armen Vardanyan, Head of Department for Information and Public Relations of RA Nature Protection Ministry told EcoLur that trees had mainly been exposed to fire, only fallen deadwood and bushes had been burnt down. Out of this 5-6 ha, 2 ha are land areas of community significance, the rest is forest areas.
According to the initial data, the reason for the fire is the sparkle generated from the short circuit of the electric wires of 'Southern Railway'.
