Spring tree pruning started in the capital on March 5. The work is going on in the streets, avenues, parks and yard areas of the capital. In some cases townspeople get concerned seeing trees cut down as they think trees are damaged. Experts assure that these activities are professionally justified.
“Tree pruning should not be confused with felling. We must deserve citizens’ trust so that they could trust us and not expect us to damage trees”, stressed dendrologist Gevorg Saroyan.
“We tightly cooperate with scientific centres, and from the ecological point of view we must provide proper care after pruning. To ensure appropriate process we have to carry out certification of each tree”, noted the Chief Ecologist of Yerevan Gayane Nersisyan.
This year all the branches will be cut into wood on the spot and the dry and damaged trees will be cut down. According to the inventory carried out last autumn, there are about 440 such trees in the capital.
“We must get rid of all dry and damaged trees and to plant new ones instead of them”, stressed the head of the Department of Nature Protection of Yerevan Municipality Khachik Hakobyan.
The process of pruning will be carried out in non-working time or at weekends so that not to bother citizens.
