“Breaking Backbone of Armenia” environmental documentary by Pan-Armenian Environmental Front (PEF) is a call to save Armenia. The public screening of this environmental documentary was held on 8 October. The film tells about environmental, health, social and legal problems arising in Syunik Region because of mining industry: as the Armenian mountains used to be and what it turned into it now, as the hearts of Syunik mountains were opened, how our clear rivers were polluted and how the Armenian nation was deprived of the heritage left by its ancestors.
‘We are sure this film can unite many people. Eventually, people can’t exist without nature. Armenia is our hometown, which is getting destroyed. It’s everybody’s duty to prevent this disaster,’ environmental activist Yeghia Nersessian said in his speech. Beirut writer of Armenian origin, journalist Saqo Aryan is deeply impressed with the film, “It’s a very powerful film, I am really impressed. Everybody knows who make Armenia be in such a situation. There was no need to point out and to show pictures. People themselves should come to conclusions,’ Saqo Aryan said. Under him, people outside Armenia are not aware what is happening here.
“After watching all this I’m afraid how my children will be living here. If you cover all this in Armenia and people here are aware, the newspapers in Diaspora don’t cover anything like this and there is no response,” the journalist mentioned.
