The scope of pollution with Akhtala Ore Dressing Combine wastes is rather large. The tailing dump is located on one side of the combine, along the highway running to Tchotchkan, which is currently operating. The filling rate of the tailing dump is rather high and it has already blocked the water springs of Ayrum Village. It will soon reach the water springs of Chotchkan Village locate upwards Ayrum. It’s evident that tails are dumped into the reserve pit for the tailing dump no to get filled so quickly. The latter is located not far from the combine and is not a tailing dump. Near the reserve pit you can find the tails which gradually flow into the Akhtala River. Downwards is the conserved tailing dump knows as Nazik. The combine carried out its reclaiming and planted trees, which grow on the ground covered with tails. The ground is insufficient and the remaining ground together with tails is washed off into the Akhtala River with rains.
The other road leads to Shamlukh open pit mining, which has already been polluted with combine objects. Above Shamlukh Village there are an open mine and tails, below you can find galleries out of which the Akhtala River flows. The water composition reminds ore compositions and the concentration of ore elements in the water exceeds MPC several THOUSAND times!!! Wagons dump ore remainders into the nearest gorge, while nearby you can find the amazing nature of Lori Region, distorted but still alive. Watch the video for more details.
