On 4 December the National Assembly ratified Armenia’s accession agreement to EEU. After the ratification of the Armenian accession by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, Armenia will become a full member of the EEC starting from 1 January 2015.
Yerevan Press Club Chairman Boris Navasardyan said that the sovereignty must be kept within the frames of the Eurasian Union, differ from other member states as much as possible: Armenia can positively differ from Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia with its democracy, freedoms and the preservation of the European value system.
In his opinion, there is no stimulus inside Armenia to develop as a country respecting human rights. The largest public forum opposing to the conclusion of this agreement is the Armenian National Platform of Civil Society Forum of EU Eastern Partnership. In reply to the question whether it’s possible for the Armenian National Platform of Civil Society Forum to cooperate with the opposition political forces and political figures, Boris Navasardyan said, “The authorities are running a course contradicting to our value system, and we should find political partners in other places. One of the ways is to cooperate with those politicians and political forces, which have clear pro-European approach.”
