Annually 928,000 sq m/s water is taken from the underground basin of Ararat Valley, as Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan stated at the press conference held on 31 January thus denying the information about permitted 1 million sq m/s. The minister also noted that the figure of 1 million sq m/s needs specifications and the precise figure will be available after ongoing hydrogeological examinations, which haven’t been carried out in Armenia since getting independence.
Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan forgot to mention that the ground and underground water reserves in Ararat Valley make up only 800,000 sq. meters, while the water usage permits issued by the Ministry exceed this volume, which results in having uncontrollable risks.
