“Go and demand your land areas from sellers,” this is Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan’s reply to Dalma land owners to are demanding compensation for their land areas. On 7 February the land owners told EcoLur about it, when they were holding their regular protest demonstration near the presidential seat.
Under land user Julietta Arshakyan, the mayor mentioned that they were development a new bill, which plans to take back the land areas and sell it on the auction to return landowners’ funds. “Fairy tales. I proposed the compensations to be from the community budget, so as the debt should be returned to the Municipality, but the Mayor didn’t agree,” Julietta Arshakyan said.
On 17 October 2013 “Dalma-Sona” Fund addressed a letter to the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, “We have applied to get an effective remedy in line with the assignment of the Aarhus Compliance Committee, but no reply so far,” Ruzanna Ghazaryan said. Armenia ratified the Aarhus Convention in 2001.
“The fight should be persistent. I am sure they will continue their fight, because this fight is not only for their rights and interests, but for the future of the whole country,” “Heritage” Faction leader Raffi Hovhannisian welcomed the landowners’ step, who became an eye witness of the protest by chance.
