Criminal Case Initiated over Illegal Fishing in Lake Sevan

As Public Relations Department of RA Prosecutor's Office informed EcoLur, on 14 March 2019 policemen of Martuni Division of RA Police and employees of Gegharkounik Territorial Division of RA Environmental and Mining Inspection, in the course of implementing their joint service, two residents of Gegharkounik Region have been detained to Martuni Department with the suspicion of illegal fishing. The policemen have also transferred two cars owned by the detainees, as well as the motorboat attached to one of the cars.

During the check of one of the cars, 160 items of whitefish weighing 61 kg in the trunk of the car, as a result of which huge pecuniary damage had been caused to the nature.

Based on this fact, Martuni Division of RA police has initiated a criminal case based on Article 292 (1(1)) of RA Criminal case. The preliminary investigation is assigned to Martuni Criminal Investigation Unit of Gegharkounik Regional Department of RA Criminal Investigative Committee. The preliminary investigation is in progress. In the course of 2019, a total of 43 criminal cases have been initiated based on illegal fishing cases.
