Since July 12, 2023, the level of Lake Sevan has started to decrease. The level of the lake rose from 1900.28 m at the beginning of the year by 28 cm to 1900.56 m by July 11. In the period between July 11 and 26, the lake level dropped to 1900.50 m, which is 16 cm lower than the same day last year. As of July 26, 119,653 million cubic meters of water were released from Lake Sevan, 83,112 million cubic meters of water entered the lake through the Arpa-Sevan aqueduct.
On July 12, 2023, RA National Assembly adopted the draft law "On making amendments to law "On approving the annual and complex programs of activities for the restoration, preservation, reproduction and use of the Lake Sevan ecosystem", according to which up to 70 million cubic meters of water will be released from Lake Sevan. The total water intake will be up to 240 million cubic meters. It should be noted that Lake Sevan has been recording a negative balance for 3 years in a row.
