The residents of Haghtanak Village, Noyemberyan area, Tavush Region, are complaining that the trees in their orchards are getting dry. The residents mention that their problem is due to the irrigation water. The irrigation of the orchards in Haghtanak Village is carried out from the Debed River, while as the villagers claim, the toxic substances from the tailing dump of Akhtala mine are dumped into the river water.

Haghtanak Village resident Ginevard said in her interview that almost all orchards in the village have got dry because of irrigating them with the river water.

'Irrigation water has no quality: our trees have got entirely dry. We want a specialist to come and to see what is going on. The same situation is in all orchards, not only mine,' Ginevard said.

Tavush Water User Union Committee Section Head Gagik Veranyan said in his interview that they let water out of the Debed River for irrigation only when the water from the tailing dumps have maximally been let out.
