On 19 October, Alaverdi Copper Smelting plant stopped its operation, while plant workers blocked the interstate highway and railroad as a sign of protest. They have only one demand – to continue the operation of the plant.

In his interview with EcoLur, “Center for Community Mobilization and Support” NGO Director Oleg Dulgaryan said that Deputy PM Tigran Avinyan proposed the protesters to form a group of ten and to come to Yerevan to discuss this problem. The protest demonstration has been stopped, while the group is coming to Yerevan to meet the Deputy PM.

The plant workers held a protest demonstration with the same demand on 10 October as well, while on 16 October they addressed an open letter to Acting Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan requesting to take measures to solve this problem.
