The constructions works for Qaghtsrashen gravity irrigation system have been stopped, nevertheless, the residents are not opening the highway. 'We went down to Azat Gorge together with Garni residents and we could see how the rocks were destroyed with heavy machinery. We warned them to stop the works, otherwise we will lie under the tractors. They turned off the machinery and stopped the works,' Levon Galstyan, a member of Pan-Armenian Environmental Front told EcoLur.
At this moment, Aram Harutyunyan, Chairman of State Committee on Water Industry, and deputy Nickol Pashinyan are on the spot. They are running negotiations with the Garni residents, who blocked Garni-Yerevan highway in the morning boycotting the construction of Qaghtsrashen gravity irrigation system. The residents are claiming they wouldn't open the highway unless all the heavy machinery were taken out of the administrative area of Garni community.
