Yerevan municipality promises 2020 to be a turning point for environmental issues in Yerevan. It is noted that the green zones of Yerevan have become unrecognizable over the years. Some have been privatized, demolished and constructed, and some have simply been neglected or dried up.
The success of any greening program depends on irrigation. To that end, the municipality intends to use the subway groundwater, deep wells and inoperative pumping stations. Restoration works will begin after the irrigation networks are installed. The project of 10 hectares of hills is ready.
In 2020, about 4.5 hectares adjacent to Ashtarak-Davtashen highway will be demolished. The parks named after Abovyan and Saryan will also be restored. Plans for the restoration and development of the city green zones also include forest protection zones on Paros, Silikyan district, Nubarashen highway, on the right side of the Water World. The park after Komitas will also be improved and restored. The community structure will also address other issues of environmental importance, in particular waste sorting, including hazardous waste.
