Haghartsin villagers, Tavush Region, are beating an alarm signal that the village has become a victim of garbage and sewage. The village with 4000 population has no garbage collection at all and new sewage line. To get rid of garbage the villagers either dump it into the Aghstev River or throw away in the forests located above the village, or just bury it in their house yards.

“The whole village is buried in the garbage, it’s the biggest problem we experience: cholera will soon burst out here…The garbage is not taken to the landfill site, it’s left in the village, on the banks of the brooklet, a little far from our houses. People bury garbage in their yards. Children suffer from ache in the stomach, vomiting, where do we know from it’s not the result of the garbage…Whatever it’s possible to burn down, we burn down, whatever is left is dumped into the river. Our wonderful forests above the village have turned into landfill sites,” Haghartsin villagers told EcoLur in their interview.

Besides garbage, the village sewage also appears in the Aghstev River. According to the villagers, sometimes sewage simply flows along the village streets.

“Dilijan sewage line runs along the village and our village is not joined to it. It’s absurd, as if here people are not living,” Haghartsin Village School Head said and said that garbage collection and sewage need urgent solution.
